Artist Credits directory
Build reusable contributor identities in SpaceMedia so credits stay consistent across every release.
Artist Credits stores the people you credit repeatedly, so you enter them once instead of retyping a name on every release and introducing a new spelling each time.
Why consistency matters
Stores and royalty systems match on the exact string you send. "J. Smith", "John Smith", and "john smith" are three different contributors as far as they are concerned, which fragments credit and can break a downstream payment.
Creating an entry once and reusing it removes that whole class of error.
Creating an entry
- Open Artist Credits.
- Search first. The whole point is not to create a second entry for someone who is already there.
- Add the person with the name that should be credited, using the legal name where the field asks for one.
- Reuse that entry every time they appear.
Credits are not splits, and not artist profiles
Three different things:
- Artist Credits record who contributed. Metadata.
- Royalty Splits decide who gets paid. Money.
- Artist profiles are the store-facing identity a release attaches to.
Adding someone to Artist Credits does not pay them and does not put the release on their artist page.
Common questions
Someone changed their name. Update the existing entry rather than creating a new one, so past and future credits stay linked.
Do I need an entry for every session musician? Credit everyone who genuinely contributed in a role the form offers. Only people you credit repeatedly need to be stored here.
